Aktuelle Information zur Öffnung des Kölner Domes

Liebe Besucherinnen und Besucher des Kölner Domes,

bitte beachten Sie, dass der Kölner Dom bis auf Weiteres nur zu den Gottesdiensten und zur Beichte öffnet. Alle Liturgien finden planmäßig statt – und Sie sind herzlich zur Mitfeier eingeladen. Eine tageaktuelle Übersicht der Domgottesdienste finden Sie in unserem elektronischen Kalender.

Bitte stellen Sie sich beim Einlass auf Personenkontrollen ein. Kommen Sie ein wenig früher als üblich und verzichten Sie nach Möglichkeit auf die Mitnahme von Taschen. Rollkoffer, Kabinentrolleys, Tagesrucksäcke und andere große Gepäckstücke können nicht mit in den Dom genommen oder dort verwahrt werden. 

Außerhalb der Gottesdienstzeiten bleibt der Dom bis auf Weiteres geschlossen. Touristische Besuche der Kathedrale sind also nicht möglich. Auch ist es derzeit leider nicht möglich, die Domkrippe zu besuchen oder eine Kerze für ein Gebetsanliegen anzuzünden. Das ist allerdings vor dem Kölner Dom möglich (siehe unten).

Ebenfalls bis auf Weiteres geschlossen bleiben die Turmbesteigung und die Schatzkammer des Domes.

Innenraumführungen in den kommenden Tagen, die bereits über das DOMFORUM gebucht waren, finden wie geplant statt. Auch hier müssen sich die Teilnehmer/innen vor Betreten der Kathedrale auf Personenkontrollen einstellen.

Alle Führungen durch die Sonderbereiche des Domes – wie die Domgrabung und das Domdach – können derzeit leider nicht stattfinden.

Wir bitten Sie um Verständnis für die genannten Einschränkungen, mit der wir allen polizeilichen Empfehlungen Rechnung tragen. Für Ihre Geduld, Ihre Gelassenheit und Ihren Zuspruch danken wir Ihnen von Herzen und sind überzeugt, dass wir diese zeitlich begrenzte Ausnahmesituation genauso gut meistern werden wie in den vergangenen Tagen. Sicherheit geht vor. Und Ihr Wohl liegt uns am Herzen. 

“Kerzenbüdchen” vor dem Dom

Da es die aktuelle Sicherheitslage nicht erlaubt, dass Gläubige im Kölner Dom eine Kerze für ein bestimmtes Anliegen entzünden können, hat der Kölner Dom mit freundlicher Unterstützung der Polizei Köln und der Betreiber des Weihnachtsmarktes am Kölner Dom kurzfristig einen Ersatz improvisiert: Neben dem Petersportal des Domes ist heute Nachmittag ein Weihnachtsmarktstand aufgestellt und mit einigen Kerzenbänken aus dem Kölner Dom versehen worden. Dort haben alle Menschen ersatzweise die Möglichkeit, eine Kerze zu entzünden – für ihre ganz privaten Anliegen, aber auch als Friedenszeichen in diesen krisenhaften Zeiten. „Ehre sei Gott in der Höhe und Friede auf Erden: Das ist die Weihnachtsbotschaft schlechthin“, sagt Dompropst Msgr. Guido Assmann. „Jeder, der in diesen Tagen vor dem Kölner Dom eine Kerze entzündet, setzt damit auch ein Zeichen für den Frieden. Möge dieses Friedenszeichen wachsen und sich ausbreiten und als Zeichen der Versöhnung in die ganze Welt hineinstrahlen.“

Current information on the opening of Cologne Cathedral

Due to the current security situation, the cathedral will only open for church services until further notice.

Dear visitors to Cologne Cathedral,

Please note that Cologne Cathedral will only open for services and for confession until further notice. All liturgies will take place as planned - and you are cordially invited to join in the celebrations. You can find a daily overview of the cathedral services in our electronic calendar.

Please be prepared for identity checks at the entrance. Arrive a little earlier than usual and, if possible, refrain from carrying bags. Roll suitcases, cabin trolleys, day rucksacks and other large items of luggage cannot be taken into the cathedral or stored there.

Outside of church service times, the cathedral will remain closed until further notice. Tourist visits to the cathedral are therefore not possible. Unfortunately, it is also currently not possible to visit the cathedral crib or light a candle for a prayer intention. However, this is possible in front of Cologne Cathedral (see below).

The tower ascent and the cathedral treasury are also closed until further notice.

Guided tours of the interior in the coming days, which have already been booked via the DOMFORUM, will take place as planned. Here too, participants must be prepared for identity checks before entering the cathedral.

Unfortunately, all guided tours through the special areas of the cathedral - such as the cathedral excavation and the cathedral roof - cannot take place at present.

We ask for your understanding for the above-mentioned restrictions, which are in line with all police recommendations. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your patience, your calmness and your encouragement and are convinced that we will cope with this temporary exceptional situation just as well as we did in the days before. "Candle booth" in front of the cathedral

As the current security situation does not allow worshippers to light a candle for a particular cause in Cologne Cathedral, Cologne Cathedral has improvised a substitute at short notice with the kind support of the Cologne police and the operators of the Christmas market at Cologne Cathedral: A Christmas market stand has been set up next to St. Peter's portal of the cathedral this afternoon and equipped with some candle benches from Cologne Cathedral. There, everyone has the opportunity to light a candle as a substitute - for their very private concerns, but also as a sign of peace in these crisis-ridden times. "Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth: That is the Christmas message par excellence," says cathedral provost Msgr. Guido Assmann. "Everyone who lights a candle in front of Cologne Cathedral these days is also sending a sign of peace. May this sign of peace grow and spread and shine out into the whole world as a sign of reconciliation."
